Oscars…

Outside of the Actress categories I was pretty close on the Oscars tonight. Which doesn’t change the fact that I was disappointed with the results. So here it is, my dream world Oscar winners.

Best Picture: There Will Be Blood

Best Cinematography: Robert Elswit, There Will Be Blood

Best Score: Johnny Greenwood, There Will Be Blood

The “sad” Oscars.

Articles like this piss me off. The Oscars are wildly irrelevant in their estimation of the best films of the year, this is true. But in a year where some films with actual artistic merit (There Will Be Blood, No Country for Old Men) are nominated along with a old-school Hollywood adult entertainment (Michael Clayton) we get nothing but articles about how these films aren’t exciting to advertisers or the viewing public.

I don’t give a shit, the films are good. I just wish more people than the cinephiles cared about this.

(By the way, when There Will Be Blood doesn’t win anything except Best Actor I am gonna be angry, even if it is exactly what I expect to happen. This is why I watch the Oscars, really, for the sense of indignation and for the montage of those who died in the last year, those always really get me.)

Big thumbs up to the crew at SXSW. Their lineup looks fantastic this year.

As for us, we are starting to get films in. I am excited for another year!
